Many people think of meditation as a religious thing which does not fit into their lifestyle. That stereotype could not be further from the truth. There are many methods of meditation which are not based on a religion or a cult. A good example is a visualization meditation called light meditation.

There are many different ways that light meditation is practiced. The most common way is to use the light of different colors and shapes. The best and purest is white light, which cleanses and energizes the body during meditation. Similarly other colors used in light meditation have their own use. It is essential for a person to know the meanings and effects of the different colors and forms of light used in light meditation. For example, green light is associated with earth and nature while white light is associated with the divine, purification, and transformation. The light can also be meditated upon in various forms such as a beam, sphere, or even in the form of continuous waves.

It is also important in light meditation that when relaxation, cleansing and self healing is required, then the light must be visualized going through the meditating persons body. The light can be in the form of a ray beamed from the sky, entering the top of the head, passing through the body and released via the feet. The entire body gets filled with light, energizing it. Another way to exercise light meditation is to imagine a concentric circle of light encompassing the body, moving from head to toe in waves of circular rings. This helps to relax while making the mind, body, and spirit stress free.

In some people's light meditation they imagine only a small source of light at a far distance. The eyes shut in complete darkness, visualizing and concentrating only on the small source of light. This form of light meditation is said to increase spirituality. It is essential to imagine, feel and sense a divine presence at the center of the light source. As the light engrosses your mental faculties and gives you a feeling of being physically absorbed you achieve union with the divine power.
