The Universal Consciousness
What is universal consciousness? How are we to perceive this concept of universal consciousness? Many assume that when we speak of Enlightenment, Cosmic, Christ and Buddha Consciousness that we are also speaking of universal consciousness, as some consider them the same.
This state of consciousness is defined many different ways, but it is often thought of being one or in tune with all that exists, with the Divine. In myriad manifestations, only the divine exists. Many have issues in regards to the common universal consciousness teachings. Some spiritual practitioners from an elite group believe that you can only achieve enlightenment by following certain practices, like meditation, prayer, yoga and so forth. They also believe it should be done under the supervision and guidance of a master or guru.
If there were any hope of achieving the ultimate goal, it would take twenty to thirty years of practice, as well as separation from the world. This is impossible for most, as we are unwilling and unable to give up family and work, which not only brings us responsibilities but joy too. It is completely absurd to say that normal people who are busy with work and family cannot truly reach universal consciousness. Even if such a strict path is taken, there is no guarantee that enlightenment will be achieved.
Rather, it is best to say that separating society from prayer, meditation, yoga and other works has its benefits and its rewards. Regardless if one becomes “truly”, enlightened; these practices are all worthwhile and beneficial. Anyone can find joy, passion and peace by following this path. Did you know that even the Dalai Lama claims he is not enlightened?
What choice do we have, since so few of us are able to follow the path of the nun and the monk? Will we ever be enlightened or achieve universal consciousness? Some believe that the universal consciousness concept is off base and malfunctioning. They believe that we were created as whole beings in the beginning. We were born as a part of God and the Divine. For that reason, they also believe that it is impossible to ever be separate from it. We may feel separate, feeling despair and loneliness, but it is not real. It is impossible to truly separate ourselves from who we were in the beginning.
Many are enlightened now, as they were in the past and we will always continue to be. The problem should not be how we reach the state of universal consciousness. The problem should be how can we accept and embrace what our universal consciousness has become. On a daily basis, how can we experience what is true of our being and what has always been true of it? “We already have what we seek”, is what Dorothy exclaimed to her companions on their way to seek out the great wizard. We are already who we are striving to be. It is a gift of being created. We will never need to earn it or deserve it. We do not need to. It is ours through our creation that was divine. Universal consciousness is ours just because we are (we exist). We can choose to do what we wish with it, like accept it or deny it. It defines who we are today, right now.
