meditationTraveling the Spiritual Journey

The spiritual journey can be many things to many people. It may have to do with building a deeper relationship with one's god or a deeper relationship with the world around them. There is no right or wrong way to go about the spiritual journey. It all depends on the person and what it is they are looking for.

The spiritual journey is not about giving away all your possessions and leading a perfect, monk-style life. It is simply about learning to live in peace and harmony with yourself and then the world around you. It is about learning, growing, and developing your own spiritual self. This may mean changing your lifestyle, or it may mean integrating your spiritual self into your current lifestyle.

Each spiritual journey can help you reconnect with life. If you are feeling lost, aimless, disconnected, or overly depressed it might be time for the spiritual journey. The spirit is a part of each person that is easily forgotten and often needs to be recharged. For this reason, the spiritual journey needs to start within you. To start down the path of the spiritual journey, you first need to know what you are looking to add or gain to your life. Make a short list of the things you want to get out of your spiritual journey. Are you looking for inner peace? Looking to strengthen a connection with a higher power? Do you want to find the meaning in your life?

Once you have your ultimate goal in mind, you can begin the spiritual journey. The next step to take is asking for help or guidance. This guidance will usually come from a higher power. A higher power is whatever being or object you choose to be higher and more powerful than yourself. It can be anything from God to Buddha to Mother Nature to the clouds or a tree. The great thing about a higher power is you get to choose what you are most comfortable with.

Asking for guidance seems simple, but it can be difficult. It takes feeling comfortable in a somewhat uncomfortable situation; appearing as if you are talking to yourself. First, quiet the mind and push aside the worries and stress of daily life. Talk about what your goals are and ask for guidance in pursuing those goals. The spiritual journey may be paved with obstacles, and often those obstacles are the doubts within us. Asking for help and guidance makes the goals achievable and gives you the confidence you need.

The spiritual journey is nothing to fear, but can really help give your life more meaning. Deciding what you want and then asking for help and guidance are the first steps in completing the spiritual journey. Don't put pressure on yourself because there is no timeline or time limit, let things go naturally. Remember there is no right or wrong way to embark on the spiritual journey; it all depends on you personally. Your spiritual journey is a process for you to grow and develop, so take your time to gain knowledge and enjoy the process.
