Spirituality use to be associated with going to church or other similar places of worship and getting as close to God as is humanly possible. It used to have a connection to all things sacred in every religion known within a given community. However, it has taken on a new meaning in recent years, especially where meditation is concerned. Now spirituality can mean getting close to God but it can also mean getting close to your higher self and opening up your mind to who you really are. However, in order to connect with that branch of spirituality via meditation, you first need to decide upon your spiritual path.

A spiritual path is literally the road you choose to take spiritually when exploring every fibre of your being during yoga and meditation. There is of course no correct spiritual path because everyone has an individual path that they take in reflection of their journey. The nature of it largely depends on experiences and emotions that the individual feels as well as the identity of the self.

There are many different types of spiritual path, most of which are largely defined by the ultimate goals that lie at the end of them. However, you might not know that most of the goals are the same but just worded in a variety of different ways. Despite that fact, the way in which people go about achieving their goals may vary widely.

Events form part of who we are so it is possible for you to travel along a much longer spiritual path than another individual. You may not need to travel at all unless you really want to explore the concept of spirituality and discover your self from all angles. The depth to which you explore is completely your decision but you should never shy away from it because you then risk losing your spiritual path and losing valuable time as a result.

We must get back to the types of spiritual path available to you though because you probably know of most of them already. The well defined paths are those that openly use meditation as a way of contacting your own spirituality. That is to say, the forms of yoga, Gnostic teachings, Rosicrucians , individual mystic spiritual paths and the Tao are amongst the best known paths. The mystic paths are perhaps the most interesting because they tend to be classed as a whole rather than as individuals and yet it is unlikely that any two mystics would share the same spiritual path!

When you get in touch with your spirituality via your spiritual path, after you have decided which one to follow of course, you will need to reclaim yourself and explore the idea of achieving your ultimate spiritual goals outside of this lifetime. Many spiritualists hold to the idea that it takes several lifetimes to achieve spiritual enlightenment after following a select spiritual path. However, you will ultimately find your journey to reclaim your self fulfilling as an experience as in terms of how it can change this lifetime for you. As such, it is entirely worth the effort.
