meditationMeditation, Relaxation And Reaching Spiritual Enlightenment

If you take a cross section of the members of the population that meditate and ask them why they do so then you are guaranteed to get a huge range of answers. Amongst the most popular are to relieve stress, to take a few moments for me time and to gain a little perspective when things go wrong. However, one of the answers that should be amongst those given but rarely is present is finding spiritual enlightenment. This was the original reason why people used to meditate because finding it can truly enhance your life.

So what exactly is spiritual enlightenment? Its truest definition relates to casting light where there has previously been nothing but dark. As such, it has to be used figuratively in the case of meditation. However, this definition of spiritual enlightenment actually describes the sensation when you reach such a level pretty accurately. Many people that have achieved spiritual enlightenment have described it as a feeling if sudden realisation, as if their entire lives had been spent in a darkened room for which they have just found the switch. Others describe their mind as being flooded with a sense of self and blinding lights that suddenly make everything so crystal clear.

As you can see, spiritual enlightenment is a unique experience and so the likelihood is that your experience of it will be unique but you should strive to achieve it nevertheless. However, you should never expect too much. Some people achieve partial enlightenment but most will never be able to achieve full spiritual enlightenment so you have to believe that you will reach the level that the universe has determined for you.

Before going into how to achieve spiritual enlightenment, it is necessary to dispel a major myth. Although you may have previously associated spiritual enlightenment with religion, that does not have to be the case at all. In fact, mystics often claim no religion but have the greatest number of people that claim to have achieved total enlightenment amongst their ranks. As such, you can strive to achieve it regardless of your religion, if you even have one, and your religious beliefs.

So how do you achieve spiritual enlightenment? Well, it is a way of life as much as it relates to meditation. The latter is just a part of it. Meditation can help you to get in touch with your inner self and block out the rest of the world. However, you have to be able to look after yourself in everyday life. This means that you have to treat others as you would want to be treated, nurture your body and respect your family. Having love in your life, regardless of whether it is from friends or family, will help to keep your perspective.

Whether or not it is the primary reason as to why you meditate, spiritual enlightenment should be on your list of why you take the time to meditate and live your life in the best possible way. Remain realistic and relax whenever you meditate and you may just find that great things do happen.
