Rainbow Meditation: A Comprehensive Technique
With people increasingly turning to a more natural lifestyle, meditation is becoming more and more common and popular in the Western world. Unlike medication, meditation can provide both spiritual and physical relief without the use of chemicals and without nasty side effects.
Because of this, there are many spiritual and healing centers that offer classes for meditation, each with a different approach and style. In general, at least at the beginning, there’s not much of a difference on which school of meditation you follow, provided it’s a well-established one. However, if meditation becomes more than a hobby to you, you should really do some research on the types and benefits of the different meditation practices so you can select the one that suits better to your beliefs or way of life.
No matter what school you select, there’s one meditation practice that is quite popular and accepted almost universally: Rainbow meditation.
Meditation, as many practices that have been handed to us from ancient civilizations, is often compared or associated with elements of nature. This practice in particular is associated with the rainbow because of its comprehensive nature. The rainbow is a representation of different aspects that are clearly separated and different from each other, yet they are joined to make a whole that is much more beautiful and powerful than each of its parts. In the case of the rainbow, the whole that is formed by the sum of the parts is literally pure light, which is also a representation of bliss and knowledge.
The Rainbow Meditation requires a relaxed body in a comfortable position. Make sure that your body is not tired or you might doze off.
Unsurprisingly, this meditation is heavily based on the colors of the rainbow. You start by imagining that you “fill” your body with red. Red symbolizes energy and strength.
Then, you continue with the next color of the rainbow: orange. Orange is the color of happiness and joy.
Next comes yellow. As you imagine your body filling out with yellow, feel how your intelligence sharpens, since that’s what yellow symbolizes.
Green is the next color in the rainbow. It symbolizes friendship and harmony and friendship with other human beings, which by extension means the elimination of disputes, specially if these happened over something unimportant.
Blue is the color of peace and relaxation. While you must let your body relax, you should pay attention not to fall asleep.
Indigo comes next. It’s the color of gentleness and kindness. It is a good moment to remember to let go any angers or resentments toward others.
The last color is violet. It stands for self-respect and beauty and it helps you feel better about yourself. Feel proud and beautiful.
