meditationUsing Meditation to Help Digestion Improve

If you have digestion problems, such as cramps, bloating, or even gases after eating, then you might want to know that that meditation can help you with these problems.

When people think of meditation, they imagine that it is practiced in order to reach spiritual awareness or lead a peaceful and thoughtful life. While it is true that some practitioners of meditation aim for these goals, there are many other benefits that you can get. Also, some of them are physical rather than spiritual or psychological, which is another common misconception.

One of the most immediate benefits of meditation is the reduction of anxiety and stress that comes from the relaxing nature of the practice. As you can imagine, some physical benefits are derived from these.

However, some people are surprised when they know that meditation can help digestion. It can help digestion because it is one of the biological processes that is most affected when the body is under stress. It is especially good to help digestion when the person incurs in bad eating habits due to stress or anxiety.

For example, let’s say for example that a person is worried because he or she has to deliver a project and the deadline is very tight. Under these circumstances, the person might have some sort of small snack at hand just to keep his or her mouth or hands busy, or because he or she feels the need to have something sweet to make him or her feel better. This kind of eating combined with the stress will result in a bad performance of his or her digestive system, but once the person learns to deal with stress better through meditation, its practice will help digestion processes.

Although all types of meditation help digestion somewhat, there are a few practices that are designed to help digestion in specific. They usually involve either visuals, positions, or a combination of both.

Using visuals in order to help digestion is the most common method. While meditating, the practitioner focuses his or her mind in a thought or image related to eating that is pleasant to him or her. This could be his favorite dish, fresh food, or an environment that he or she finds pleasant to eat at. After this “meal,” the practitioner then imagines the food going through his or her digestive system in a natural, peaceful way.

The second way that meditation is used to help digestion is by assuming positions. These positions put the stomach in either an exercising state or in a relaxing one, depending on the opinion or judgment of the trainer.

Despite these benefits, there are people that are skeptic and don’t believe that meditation can help digestion. These people claim that the benefits, if any, are the result of the desire and expectation of getting a result through practicing meditation. That is, people get results through meditation because they think and expect to get results and not from the practice of meditation itself.

Finally, if you want to help digestion processes, always consult with your spiritual guide first and tell him the exact nature of your digestion problems and probable cause before engaging in meditation practices aiming at helping your digestion.
