Meditation has long been used in conjunction with weight loss to make dieting easier. It is only natural to use meditation for weight loss, because a big part of losing weight means having a positive mindset. Diet and exercise alone are simply not enough to get you through the times when you may be hungry from dieting, or tired from exercise. You may even get down on yourself because a diet isn't helping you shed pounds as fast as you would like. These trying times during a diet and exercise program are exactly when meditation for weight loss can help you stick to a diet and help you shed pounds over a longer period of time.

Don't give up on weight loss - use meditation to help you stay on it.

One form of meditation that helps with weight loss is the act of chanting a mantra. A mantra is a word that you say over and over until you form an association with that word. In the case of weight loss, you would want to pick a word like "hungry." You would chant this word until you come up with an association like "full". By thinking about the connection of these two words for a few seconds at a time, you will be able to determine what these two words mean to you, and when you are finished with your meditation, you can take the time to gain insight into why you chose certain words and the impact they can have on your diet.

You can also choose words like your favorite binge foods. For example, you can use words like "chocolate", or you can use body-image words like "thin." Any words that come to mind when you meditate will help you determine the real issues surrounding your diet dilemma. Make sure that you find a comfortable and quiet place where you won't be disturbed when you are chanting. This kind of chanting needs to be done at least five times a week for fifteen minute sessions, over the course of your diet and exercise program, in order to be effective.

Meditation will also help you stay on your diet.

Body imagery is another form of meditation that helps with weight loss. With this kind of meditation, you actually imagine yourself as a perfect statue - exactly as you want to see yourself after the diet. Then, imagine that you are trapped inside the statue and need to break free. You can use an imaginary hammer, a chisel or anything else that will release the real you from the confines of the statue. This kind of imagery takes about ten minutes a day.

These are only two examples of how meditation will help you with weight loss. There are many other forms of meditation that will help with weight loss, which in turn help with other medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and joint pain caused by obesity.
