meditationWhat Can Meditation for Stress Relief Do For Me?

There are billions of people on this earth. Each and every single person has felt the effects of stress. Some people have a natural ability to shrug it off without it causing too much negativity in their life. For the rest of us, the normal people, we struggle with stress building up until it spills over and infects our health and interactions with other people, like poison. It's not that we desire to bite people's heads off, but it's unavoidable, right? Wrong! There are ways for you to relieve your stress before it has a chance to rear its ugly head, and meditation for stress relief is an effective method that has been used by many people for many years.

The physical effects of stress come in many familiar forms. Headaches, stomach problems, insomnia, anxiety, and high blood pressure are the most common physical symptoms. There is even research that shows stress can make existing illnesses and diseases worse. It is important to note that there are two kinds of stress: positive and negative. Positive stress helps our bodies react to danger. Negative stress is a consistent, unwavering stress that builds and causes a whole host of problems. Meditation for stress relief helps us get rid of the negative stress.

The benefits of meditation for stress relief

Using meditation for stress relief provides many benefits to you and your health. By learning to relax your body and mind into a calm state, you are allowing your body to start repairing the damage that stress has caused. You will notice that your breathing and heart rates will slow down. Your blood pressure will decrease. Your body will be able to use oxygen much better. All of the functioning systems of your body, including your immune system, will start to function better. Your mind will become less clouded, and you will gain a heightened ability to focus and make better decisions.

Meditation for stress relief is easy once you learn how to do it properly and practice. You don't need any special equipment and you don't have to pay any expenses to meditate - unless of course you choose to hire an instructor. Learning to use meditation for stress relief will take lots practice. The hardest part is learning how to stop thinking about the events of the day and clear your mind. Deep breathing, visualization, and chanting are all things that are used in meditation for stress relief.

Deep breathing is easy enough on its own. It is simply the process of taking in deep, slow breaths through your nose. You will then exhale slowly through your mouth. Chanting is also easy. You can choose a short phrase like "melt away" or a single word like "relax". It is the chanting of these words that will ultimately help you relax and keep your mind from distraction during your meditation for stress relief session.

Visualization is a bit more tricky. You will need a calming image; an image that makes you feel peaceful and serene. The image that you choose should be associated with something that automatically makes you feel relaxed, like the ocean or the middle of the rainforest. You can also use nature sounds to help with this effort. For example, your meditation for stress relief session can be enhanced by coupling your visualization of the ocean with a CD that has the sounds of the ocean.
