Meditation will help you go to sleep faster.
If you are having sleep problems, meditation will relax you and help you fall asleep if you have mild or moderate sleeping problems. This is because meditation helps you relax, and so consequently, helps you enjoy a more peaceful night of slumber time. This is important; because getting a good night of sleep will help you concentrate during the next day. However, what most people don’t realize is that the reason they can’t sleep is because they take their problems with them to bed. This is why they have a restless sleep or even have nightmares.
Don’t relax with the television.
Because they don’t understand what meditation is, many people go to sleep watching television because they think it relaxes them. This is quite the opposite from the truth. Television actually stimulates the brain and so when you fall asleep your mind is over-stimulated from the day as well as television. This is why you may be waking up at three in the morning and can’t go back to sleep. When this happens, most people turn the television back on and get stimulated again until they fall back into a slumber. Watching television is a vicious cycle that always results in a bad night of sleep. Meditation before bed is a much better way to get the rest that you need.
Meditation before sleep is much better than television.
Meditation before sleep will help you get a much more recuperative rest than watching television, and unlike watching two hours of programming, it only takes about ten minutes. If you don’t know anything about meditation, progressive relaxation is the best way to get to sleep. All you have to do is sit in a chair and simply tighten and then relax every muscle in your body. This isn’t as complicated as it sounds. You can start by clenching and then unclenching your fists. Then, tense and relax your shoulders. By closing your eyes and continuing with all of the muscles in your body, you will eventually feel relaxed enough to go to bed.
Once you have mastered progressive relaxation as a meditation technique, you may want to add breathing exercises. All you have to do is take deep breaths for about five minutes. If you concentrate on your breathing and let all of your thoughts go, you will immediately feel relaxed and ready to go to bed. Deep breathing exercises also work in any kind of situation during the day when you might need to calm down.
The reason why meditation works is that it lets you concentrate on what your body is experiencing and lets your mind clear itself of all the clutter from a day of work. Let’s face it; we all have jobs, bills to pay, family, and a hundred other things that weigh on our mind. Meditation clears the mind of this kind of clutter better than anything else, and allows you to get a good night of sleep.
