#71 - Meditation allows you to reach self-actualization.

There are times when it almost seems that the elusive quest for self-actualization can never be fully achieved. The path to self-actualization is an individual journey. It isn't something we can buy in a can or take as a course at our community college. The good news, however, is that the means to achieve real self-actualization are available to us.

Meditation is a natural path to self-actualization because, to realize self-actualization, one must look inward. Meditation is the only discipline where we develop both the ability and the will to sustain that inward view. Meditation is a very real methodology that both points you inward and then empowers you to delve into what you discover there. The concept of self-actualization means different things to different people. For some it might be a self-motivation principle for realizing the potential of skills. For others it will have a much deeper spiritual meaning.

Wherever our understanding of self-actualization takes us, it is meditation that will get us there. It is through meditation that we can understand the true nature of our minds and inner beings. In the silent focus of a meditative state, it is possible to see things as they are, without the blinders of emotion, attachment, and worst of all, fear. We can come to know ourselves and accept ourselves as we are. It is only through seeing the true nature of ourselves and our lives that we can become self-actualized.

Meditation is, after all, a discipline to empower us to be able to sustain reflection and self-examination. It is through the process of patient and repeated self-examination that real self-actualization can occur.

If you are seeking your higher self, meditation is the key. You can easily learn to meditate and begin right away. Although true self-actualization is the journey of a lifetime, the sooner you start, the sooner you will know what it means to really live.
