meditationJapa Meditation: A Simple Technique To Create Inner Peace

In our modern world it is so easy for your mind to become clouded by the stresses and worries of everyday life, and if left unchecked this can have an extremely negative impact upon both your emotional and physical well being. Japa meditation is a technique that has been used for centuries and is one of the most effective ways of clearing the mind and soothing away any worries or anxieties that may have built up inside you.

Japa meditation is a technique that has been practiced by many religions, however the good news is that you do not need to belong to any specific culture or hold any religious beliefs in order to take advantage of this fantastic tool. Japa meditation is open to all of us and is able to be practiced by absolutely anyone in order to create a feeling of inner peace and tranquility.

Japa meditation is based around chanting a specific word or 'mantra' over and over again. It is this constant repetition that helps to focus your mind on a certain thought or feeling, which in turn allows your mind to gently release you from the burdens of stress that you have been carrying around.

Probably the most well known mantra used during Japa meditation is the word 'Aum' (pronounced 'Ah-ohm'). When this word is repeated slowly it creates vibrations inside of the head which are believed to stimulate the brain and help to bring about a feeling of relaxation. However, you do not have to use this specific word; you can use any word you like just so long as it has positive and uplifting connotations for you. For instance, you could chant the name of your husband or wife, the name of your child, of a family member or other loved one...the list is literally endless.

The great thing about Japa meditation is that it is so incredibly flexible: you can practice it throughout the day no matter where you are; you can practice alone, or in a group setting; you can chant out loud, or silently inside your head, and you can choose a different word to chant each time you meditate. The most important aspect to remember is to tailor your Japa meditation so that it makes you feel as comfortable as possible.

Japa meditation is an excellent way of easing the stress and pressure that daily life puts on our shoulders. By taking just a few minutes out of the day to practice Japa meditation you will soon find yourself in a state of deep relaxation and free from tension and anxiety. You will now be in a position to fully appreciate each moment of the day and embrace all the challenges that life throws at you.
