As we progress on our journey through life, we naturally seek out happiness whilst at the same time trying to avoid, and prevent, feelings of unhappiness or suffering. A lot of people out there do not realize that true happiness is a state of mind that is unlocked by carefully gaining full control over the mind using techniques such as Insight meditation. Unfortunately many of us feel that the key to happiness is in the accumulation of material possessions, and while it is true that material goods may make you feel happier in the short term, these feelings of happiness are short lived and you will soon need to start searching for a new object to give you that same feeling of fulfillment. Insight meditation is a tool that absolutely any one can use in order to train their mind so that they may find the everlasting happiness and contentment that we are all searching for.

Insight meditation is a technique that can help you to develop a sense of inner peace and insight by focusing all of your attention for a prolonged period of time. As you become settled in to your Insight meditation session, you will slowly find yourself easing into a relaxed state of contemplation, from where you can begin to look deep inside your mind and explore your inner self.

In order to show you just how easy it is to benefit from Insight meditation, we are going to talk you through a quick and easy exercise that you can try out right now. Insight meditation can be practiced anywhere, but it is usually best to find a quite peaceful place to sit where you will be free from interruptions and distractions. Sit with a straight back, your chin ever so slightly tilted downwards, and place your hands on your lap. Your palms should be facing upwards, with one hand resting on top of the other so that the tips of your thumbs are touching. Now, focus all of your attention and slowly move it down your body and release any tension that may be inside you. As you move your attention take notice of the sensations you feel such as warmth or the moisture in your palms.

If you find your mind beginning to wander as you practice your Insight meditation simply re-focus on your body - this acts as an anchor for your thoughts. Now carry on moving your attention around your body. As you do this you will find that you create a connection with your inner self and enter into a reflective and insightful state of being.

Searching for happiness through material possessions is a symptom of being unfulfilled on a spiritual and emotional level; however, using Insight meditation is a great way of allowing yourself to connect with your subconscious. Insight meditation takes you on a journey of self discovery, and it is this journey that unlocks a higher state of consciousness and the peace of mind of being able to see things as they really are.
