Expanding your consciousness
For forty years, Buddha continuously sat under the tree, asking himself a question about his existence. He kept asking himself “Who am I?” For all these years he had the same question for himself and he was looking for a conclusive answer. He kept his patience at a very high level that he was actually able to question himself for so long and he wanted to expand his consciousness more. He had bad experiences dealing with the world in the past and he was there to expand his consciousness by thinking of other ways which he was sure of. As the time passed by he got different answers to the questions on his mind but he did not think of any of them as being acceptable.
Buddha was able to spend a long period of time solely expanding his consciousness using so much determination and patience. There must have been occasions where he wanted to get up and get involved in the social activities. But he had firm belief that his act would take him to a place where no one from mankind had been before. He probably had no idea where he would end up but still he would expand his consciousness to proceed further. He was not even sure at what level of darkness would he be answered.
One way he knew to expand his consciousness to such a level to get his answers was to try a way which he was not even aware of. He had tried all the longer and old ways but had been unsuccessful and was still looking for the right path. We expand our consciousness to get along with our energy instead of cling to the form. There is a thought in the back of our mind that says to be able to experience something outstanding, we have to make ourselves outstanding. But to expand our consciousness to such a level it becomes more about travelling from known places to the unknown places. By travelling an infinite distance that energy has a place to expand and stretch and help us come up with new ways of expressing our thoughts and experiences.
The journey to expand our consciousness is not guaranteed to be cozy and comfortable. But the destiny has no other alternative. We know that Buddha was not accepting any of the answers that came to his mind but the reason why he did not feel right about any of them is because he was committed to accepting only the truth.
Put simply, the art of expanding consciousness is the act of viewing reality in a different way. Where there were many things you had no understanding of before, there is now light and understanding. Old truths and beliefs seem naïve, and the individual experiences a deeper understanding. Albert Einstein, one of the cleverest people to have ever lived, said that “no problem can be solved by the consciousness that created it”. Here, Einstein was referring to the fact that people need to expand their consciousness to be able to understand the complex facts of our universe.
