It is generally common knowledge that the brain is like one big electrical hub. It produces different levels of electricity, called brainwaves. These waves of electricity are measured in Hertz, and are also known as brainwave Hz. Brainwave entrainment helps you learn how to access the brainwave Hz frequencies that are created during certain levels of consciousness. There are four main states of consciousness that the brain goes through during a normal sleep-wake cycle.

The first state of consciousness is Delta. The Delta frequency operates at a brainwave Hz of 0.5 to 4. This frequency is most prevalent during periods of deep sleep. During this state, a person is not dreaming, but the brain is still working. It is the Delta state that allows the mind to clear and the body to repair from the day's exposures and stresses.

After the Delta state, the brain enters the Theta state. This frequency is reached when the brainwave Hz levels reach 4 to 7. During the Theta state, a person will perform tasks automatically, without much concentration. It is during this state that many people will daydream, but it is also believed by many scientists to be the state of consciousness that governs our abilities to access creativity. Many people that meditate often consider the Theta state to be the target to reach, especially in instances of astral projection.

The next state of consciousness is the Alpha state. The brainwave Hz levels for this state are 7 to 13. Those people who are not extremely experienced in meditation will often reach this state during sessions. It is the ideal choice for basic meditation because it is the state of consciousness where basic relaxation can take place. The feeling presented by the Alpha state is often compared to a twilight sleep, where you are drowsy but still alert enough to know what is going on around you.

The final state of consciousness that we reach in the cycle is the Beta state. At brainwave Hz measurements of 13 to 30, this is the time when are brains are the most active. We are completely awake and are on high alert. We have the capabilities to focus sharply and concentrate until the brainwave Hz levels drop into another state. For meditation purposes, the more experienced meditators choose to access this frequency in order to teach the brain how to focus better. It is also commonly used for people who suffer from compulsive daydreaming or drifting, as well as people who suffer from attention disorders.

Each one of these states of consciousness plays a very specific role in many aspects of the brain, including your thoughts and actions. By measuring the brainwave Hz levels, science has provided us with scientific explanations into how it is that meditation can be so beneficial across multiple areas. Although the brain is something that will never be fully understood, we know that there are ways to help ourselves be the type of people that we want to be, without relying on surgeries and mass amounts of medications.
